Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy

On Tuesday evening, I attended a workshop brought to us by Nursing Students for Choice. This workshop focused on the importance of our pelvic floor muscles when it comes to our core function. You best believe it! Everyone's pelvic floor is an essential aspect to our body's core muscles.

This workshop was led by a physical therapist who specialized in pelvic core therapy. We learned about the pelvic core's importance in stabilization, supporting posture, sexual issues, and voiding. The way we stand, sit, pick things up, and go about our daily activities such as breathing are all affected by our core muscles -- including the pelvic floor. We also learned a couple of exercises that could help with pelvic floor weakness or dysfunctions. It was an interesting topic and worth understanding a little bit about for the future.

This workshop also rekindled my desire to work in women's health in the future as the pelvic floor can be the source of pain and discomfort for athletes, women of childbearing age, and the elderly. I am very interested to expand my knowledge in reproductive health issues so I can best serve my future patients.

Hope you're all having a great end of the week!

Sincerely,

Meagan
