Time to get packin'! New school JITTERS.

columbia nursing school blog

Things I will miss about HOME:

- The WEATHER -- I love that it doesn't get TOO hot or TOO cold

- Quick walks to the beach -- when I lived in San Diego for school and at home in San Francisco for the past 23 years... I was always in close distant to a beach -- my escape away from stresses

- I can easily go into downtown for that lively, hustle and bustle excitement... or retreat back to quiet residential areas with my cup of hot tea to just Netflix and chill

- Safeway, 99 ranch supermarkets, Lucky's, Grocery Outlet.. ALL MY CHAIN SUPERMARKETS :'(

- AND MOST IMPORTANTLY... FAMILY. Basically majority of my family on both my mom and dad's side are also here. We all live within a max of 30 minutes from each other.. it's crazy to know I will part with them again for another four years. :( These past few weeks with my cousins have been really amazing... I am really lucky to have cousins that really feel like my siblings. MOM AND DAD I WILL MISS YOU. At least my mom will be able to keep up with my life in NYC through Snapchat. Haha. I feel sad that I will be leaving my parents. It feels a lot more different than the time I left for undergrad.. maybe because I am older now and that this is grad school. Who knows.. but what I DO know is that I love them so much and even though we scream and yell at each other on a daily basis. <3

I have about a week left before I make the big move to NYC to begin the Master's portion at Columbia!!! I am excited to finally begin this next chapter in my life! I don't know how to describe what I am exactly feeling at this moment. Everyone I spoke with about moving to New York keeps telling me how much I am going to love it there. They continue to tell me anecdotes about their close family or friends who moved out there from California and never want to come back. The thought of that frightens me a bit. I LOVE it here in California. I love the weather, I love that my family is here. It all feels safe. And maybe that's the main reason why I feel like I would instantly want to move back home after I'm done with the program... because California is all I know. It's been my home for the past 23 years. I know the adjustment will take time, and I'm sure it will all work out in the end.

I guess something I need to work on is to really live in the moment and take things as they come. I have always been the type of person who liked creating Excel spreadsheets, making agendas, marking everything in my calendar. I am not fond of unexpected surprises and always like to be prepared. But, sometimes you can't prepared for EVERYTHING. I will always be a person who likes to plan her future out. That will never really change. But what I can do... is to be open to change, to adapting, to new opportunities, to letting myself be present instead of always in the future.

So, here's to making incredible new friendships, engaging in memorable experiences, and working hard (& playing hard from time to time) in the next few years to come! Cheers!

Alright, alright. No more procrastinating! On to fitting my life into two carry-on luggages and one check-in luggage! Time to roll all my pants and tops up to fit! Wish me luck!

Sincerely,

Meagan
